Google Domains is now available to everyone in the U.S.  So now you can pick a domain name at Google Domains or transfer the domain name you own at a different registrar.

This article is intended for those whom want to transfer your domain from GoDaddy to Google domains.

Steps of transfer GoDaddy domain to Google Domains:

step 1: Unlock your domain with GoDaddy

Please login to your GoDaddy account, in domain manage item, edit your domain lock from on to off. Locking prevents unauthorized changes, including transfer to another registrar.

step 2: Get authorization code

Click Authorization Code field in domain manage, the authorization code will email to admin’s contact email address.

Here’s the authorization code and domain information you requested: Customer Account: xxxxxxxx

Domain Name: yourdomain.COM

Authorization Code: xxxxxx.

Your domain’s still active and no action is required. No changes have been made to your account. If you delete this email or simply don’t use the code, your domain status will remain as-is.

step 3 : Import domain setting

Please choose “Detect and import my domain’s current settings (recommended)”.

Google will import your domain’s existing resource records and update your name servers. Choose this option if your name servers are hosted with your current registrar, if you don’t use a third-party DNS provider, or if you aren’t sure.

step 4 : Transfer

The information of your domain registration and add a year in current domain registrar.

The current expiration date for yourdomain.com is January 18, 2016.
Transferring your domain to Google requires an additional year of registration ($12).
When you transfer, you retain all the time of your current registration and add an extra year.
After the transfer is complete, yourdomain.com will be registered until January 18, 2017.

step 5: Confirm contact information

This information is required by ICANN, in order to reach you in case of problems with your registration. It may be publicly associated with your domain.

step 6 : Payment

step 7 : Confirm transfer in email

You will receive an email  for your domain transfer. After you have approved the transfer, it can take up to 7 days for the previous registrar to release the domain.

How to get GoDaddy domain name authorization code?

If you want to transfer a domain name to Google domains, you need an authorization code from GoDaddy. This code display in your account, you need login in account, in ‘Manage my domains->additional settings->authorization code’. While GoDaddy will email it upon request to the your email address for your domain name. Before get authorization code, you must unlock your domain. A domain lock prevents it from being transferred.


How to reduce downtime when I transfer a domain?

If the domain is no longer with the old registrar, the old registrar’s name servers will stop responding to any queries for your domain. This causes a downtime until you switch your domain to new DNS.

If you select Detect and import my domain’s current settings, Google Domains will display the DNS resource records for you domain immediately to minimize the downtime during transfer.

Can I transfer my domain anytime?

No. It is not possible to transfer a domain during the initial 60 day period after registering the domain. Domains must have existed for 60 days or longer. New domain registrations cannot be transferred until this time has passed.
